DNP graduate lands innovative career opportunity supporting NICU patients through new care solutions
College of Nursing DNP graduate Class of 2024 Samantha Sobie, NNP, is joining an innovative team that is leading the way in neonatal and pediatric family engagement services, with a role that focuses on improving NICU navigation and discharge process for care teams and the families they serve.
“Thanks to the support and education I received through Wayne State University’s College of Nursing, I recently accepted a job as a NICU2Home Clinical Specialist with AngelEye Health,” Sobie said.
AngelEye Health is advancing NICU care by equipping care teams with tools that optimize workflow while empowering families through a comprehensive suite of technologies. NICU2Home is the company’s latest solution, that is the first evidence-based NICU navigation and discharge coordination solution, which leverages the power of a hospital’s electronic health record for discharge support.
The solution guides parents with care instructions and education pre- and post-discharge to assist them with a safe transition from NICU to home. The solution provides families with daily health literate education sent directly to their mobile device. Sobie explained, the technology helps parents feel connected and educated throughout their NICU journey.
“After learning about NICU2Home, I felt compelled to reach out and see if I could help in any way,” she said. “I told them about my doctoral project and how the discharge process and educating families is a true passion of mine.”
When asked about Sobie’s job interview, Nicole Nyberg, MSN, APRN, NNP-BC, stated that “Samantha's expertise in health literacy, gained through her education and doctoral work, made her an ideal fit for the clinical specialist role. Her knowledge will help to ensure that NICU2Home delivers clear, accessible information to families, which is essential for empowering parents and building their confidence in caring for their baby."
Sobie will help implement the NICU2Home solution in NICU’s across the country. This career opportunity was a perfect fit because it aligned well with her concentration in the DNP program.
“My doctoral project focused on assessing and improving current NICU education materials to meet national health literacy recommendations. It highlighted the fact that health literacy should be a priority in health care, and hospitals can lead this initiative to create beneficial changes that will decrease hospital readmissions as well as spending to improve patient outcomes,” she said.
Through her research and experience in the DNP program, Sobie has prepared herself for the role with AngelEye Health and its NICU2Home solution by learning about the importance of educational enhancements and their implementation in NICUs. She can also work closely with NICU nurses, who play a direct part in educating parents about the transition of care post-discharge.
“My doctoral work at Wayne State University opened up many possibilities and prepared me for this job with AngelEye Health. I feel it is rare to have found such an opportunity, the chance to pursue my doctoral passions even past my DNP program,” she said. “I’m extremely grateful for the professors and administration at the Wayne State College of Nursing who allowed me to complete my degree on my time and have provided such wonderful support along the way.”
