Wayne State University’s College of Nursing proudly marks its 80th anniversary in 2025, celebrating its long-standing impact on nursing education, research and healthcare leadership in Michigan and beyond.

Since its founding in 1945, the College of Nursing has been a leader in advancing nursing education and preparing healthcare professionals to address evolving challenges.

Milestones include launching the nation’s first Bachelor of Science in Nursing program with a comprehensive curriculum, pioneering international nursing education in 1947 and establishing Michigan’s first Center for Health Research affiliated with an educational institution in 1969.

To honor this legacy, Wayne State Nursing will host special events and launch commemorative initiatives throughout the year. These celebrations will highlight the college’s commitment to innovation and excellence in nursing.
