College of Nursing Student Ambassador Program kicks off with volunteer and community engagement opportunities

The Wayne State University College of Nursing proudly launched its inaugural Student Ambassador Program in Fall 2024. The student ambassadors represent all programs within the college, including BSN, MSN, DNP and PhD, to serve as the face of the WSU College of Nursing at events and assist in various initiatives.

This semester, the student ambassadors have completed various volunteer opportunities within the WSU College of Nursing to enrich the collaboration and community among students:

  • Volunteered at The Detroit Youth Health Expo, offering blood pressure demonstrations.

  • Participated in an undergraduate research project at Wayne State University.

  • Conducted tours of the WSU College of Nursing, providing prospective students with insights into its programs.

  • Attended the Dr. Virginia Hill Rice Endowed Distinguished Lecture.

Sophomore BSN student Danielle Irechukwu said the experience as an ambassador has allowed her to deepen her connection to the College of Nursing community and network with nursing professionals in and out of the college. She attended the recent Dr. Virginia Hill Rice Endowed Distinguished Lecture, where she met the CEO and President of the American Association of Nursing Deborah Trautman, PhD, RN, FAAN, and the President and CEO of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Kathleen Reeves, MD.

“As an ambassador, I had the ability to engage with distinguished health professionals. It was an inspiring and transformative experience,” said Irechukwu. “These interactions showed me the importance of building meaningful connections with leaders in the field who have excelled in their craft. Learning from their wisdom and strength has empowered me and reminded me of the incredible support system available to me at Wayne State.”

In addition to enhancing their resumes and skill sets, Student Ambassadors earn a stipend each semester for their efforts and are selected each academic year through an application process.
