N-CLEX process

When you are preparing to take the state licensure exam (N-CLEX), there are several steps you will need to plan for. It is important to note the following:

  1. Download application materials from michigan.gov/healthlicense, three weeks before the start of the semester you plan to graduate.
  2. Complete application and mail to:

  1. Complete fingerprint background check in one of three ways listed on NCLEX application (fingerprint appointment should be scheduled 7-10 days after mailing your application)
  2. Register to take the NCLEX-RN exam with Pearson Professional Testing at vue.com/nclex.
  3. Processing of your license application may take up to six weeks from the date it is received at the Regulatory Affairs Office.  Please see item number 9 regarding ATT numbers.
  4. Approximately three weeks after mailing your application you will receive an application confirmation letter containing your customer number. You may use this customer number to check on the status of your application.
  5. Attend an approved NCLEX-RN review session and provide documentation to the Office of Student Affairs.  Certification forms will then be sent to the Michigan Regulatory Affairs from the Office of Student Affairs.
  6. Successfully complete all degree requirements (including NCLEX-RN review session).
  7. You will receive an ATT (Authorization to Test) number from the Regulatory Affairs Office along with instructions on how the schedule your exam (usually within three weeks from the date the Office of Regulatory Affairs receives your degree certification form.
  8. Follow instructions included with ATT number and schedule your exam with Pearson Professional Testing.
  9. You must sit for the exam within ninety days of receiving your ATT number.
