Bio Sketch

Dr. Sally Villaseñor is a board certified acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP-BC) with 26 years experience in the critical care, emergency department, and urgent care settings. Clinical areas of expertise are: Emergency Department & Urgent Care of Adults; Intensive & Critical Care Nursing; Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education (GCNE).

She is an assistant professor & alumnus of Wayne State University (WSU) College of Nursing. Her teaching experience includes physical assessment, pathophysiology, applied pharmacotherapeutics, and nursing informatics in the doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program. She is currently the specialty coordinator for the Graduate Certificate in Nursing Education (GCNE).

Sally has participated in multiple DNP project committees with students as both chair & reader. Translation of research into practice interests are: Care continuity with use of virtual personal health records; Bridging the communication gaps between acute and primary care; Advancing technology in healthcare and nursing; Challenges with electronic prescribing.

She chaired the DNP Curriculum committee for WSU Faculty Association for 3 years (2019-2022) and is co-chairing the College of Nursing Strategic Planning committee (2022-2027) with Dr. Kristina Aaron while serving on the WSU Graduate Council (2022-2024). 

She is currently doing a 2-year Fellowship (2023-2025) with the WSU Office of Teaching & Learning (OTL) to become a peer reviewer of the Quality Matters (QM) Rubic for online & hybrid courses. She is also a recipient of an assessment grant from WSU (for the 23-24 AY) to to build a sustainable, more robust assessment portfolio of the GCNE program that elicits students’ and graduate perspectives on their preparation for teaching nursing and on the quality of clinical sites.
