This annual survey gathers objective and reliable data about the delivery and use of scheduled and unscheduled ambulatory medical services in the U. S. Multistage probability design of 112 geographic probability sampling units, 15 physician practices (n=3,000 physicians), and 25,000 patient office visits. Visits for inclusion in the research are randomly selected from the physicians' list of office visits using a random start, and based on the estimated number of visits for the week and number of days the physician was expected to see patients during the week.
NHAMCS (National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey) 2017. Downloaded 8/12/2020.
This annual survey gathers objective and reliable data about the delivery and use of scheduled and unscheduled ambulatory medical services in the U. S. Probability sample of non-federal, general, and short-stay hospitals. There are 112 PSUs, 500 hospitals, 400 emergency departments, 250 outpatient departments, for a total of 37,000 emergency department and 35,000 outpatient visits for the 4-week reporting period.

Oversampling of Hispanic, non-Hispanic Blacks, Asians, persons at or below 130% of poverty, and those 60 years of age and older. Data was gathered through in-home interviews, physical examinations, and biophysical specimens.
NHCS (National Hospital Care Survey). Requires proposal.
The National Hospital Care Survey (NHCS) is designed to provide accurate and reliable health care statistics that answer key questions of interest to health care and public health professionals, researchers, and health care policy makers. This includes tracking the latest trends affecting hospitals and health care organizations and factors that influence the use of health care resources, the quality of health care, and disparities in health care services provided to population subgroups in the United States. NHCS collects data on patient care in hospital-based settings to describe patterns of health care delivery and utilization in the United States. Settings include inpatient, emergency (EDs), and outpatient departments (OPDs). The survey will provide hospital utilization statistics for the Nation. In addition, NHCS will also be able to monitor national trends in substance use-related ED visits including opioid visits. Researchers can link these survey data to outside data sources such as the National Death Index to obtain a more complete picture of patient care.
NHIS (National Health Interview Survey) 2018. Downloaded 8/9/2020.
The NHIS has monitored the health of people in the United States since 1957. Considered to be the "gold standard" for health related data in the United States (Sell, Goldberg, & Conron, 2015). A cross-sectional annual household interview survey containing all adults (if agreed) in a household aged 17 and older. Computer assisted personal interviewing used to collect the data.
