Community impact
The College of Nursing affirms and demonstrates its commitment to the advancement of urban health and health promotion through solid partnerships with local health centers, hospitals, clinics and community centers. Through interprofessional education, clinical care and rigorous research that generates new nursing knowledge, we are dedicated to advancing the profession of nursing and the health of our region and beyond.
The WSU Campus Health Center (CHC) is just one example of these partnerships. The CHC is a full-service primary care clinic that serves all currently enrolled Wayne State students; it is also where nursing students gain experience to become part an exceptionally talented and diverse nursing workforce, ready and able to lead in contemporary health care practice. The CHC has always been an academic, nurse-managed clinic, owned and operated by Nursing Practice Corporation (NPC), the faculty practice plan of the Wayne State University College of Nursing.
The NPC established the Taylor Street Primary Care Clinic in 2020. Its mission is to help the Virginia Park community and surrounding Detroit neighborhoods get and stay well by providing health care services to prevent and treat common physical illnesses, making wellness-related resources accessible, and promoting health education and wellness activities. It is a full-service primary care clinic devoted to the community and providing care for patients of all ages.
