Cinzia Carparso

2016 Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar

After earning her bachelor’s from Oakland University in 2013, Cinzia chose to continue her education in Wayne State’s B.S.N. to Ph.D. program. She realized while serving as an OU teaching assistant for three years that she has a passion for teaching. At WSU, Cinzia is studying the psychological risk factors in adolescents and young adults who have a parent with end-of-life cancer. “There is not a lot of support for children or the remaining spouse after a parent passes away,” Cinzia says, speaking from personal experience. “And the anxiety and trauma can cause other issues related to this loss.” After earning her Ph.D., she plans to find a faculty position at a research-intensive university. Congratulations to Cinzia for being named a 2016 Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar.

The prestigious award, funded by the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare, was given for the academic and professional excellence she has achieved thus far and for the potential of her graduate studies to affect veterans and the nursing profession. The center is dedicated to improving veteran health through the Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar program and to developing outstanding nursing faculty and clinical leaders through the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar program.
