Bio Sketch

My clinical and research activities over 20 years have focused on influences on airway disease, respiratory health outcomes, and quality of life in adolescents and adults.  I have been predominantly investigating interactions among the biological, environmental, and social determinants on respiratory health.  I have conducted novel research on inflammatory biomarkers in asthma and allergy related to sleep and functionality.  My research focus also extends to determining the effects of exposure to environmental pollutants and toxins on health risk, lung function, and symptom management in children and adults.  I have published extensively in the area of asthma and allergic disease as well as served on several multidisciplinary panels to develop guidelines and position papers related to asthma and allergic disease.  I have also mentored graduate nursing students on research projects, masters’ theses, and doctoral dissertations throughout my career with the goal of educating future nurse scientists.
