Teneka Liddell

2016 Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar

A nurse educator and registered nurse at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, Teneka is also an RN at the Detroit Medical Center. She specializes in health promotion, patient teaching and nursing education. After earning her B.S.N. from Michigan State University and her M.S.N. in adult health from Eastern Michigan University, Teneka is now pursuing her Ph.D. in nursing at Wayne State. “I chose WSU because of its connection to the city of Detroit and vulnerable populations,” she says. “I love that they do research on issues that matter in the community.” Once Teneka earns her Ph.D., she hopes to help make change in practice and policy as well as create new nursing knowledge. Congratulations to Teneka for being named a 2016 Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar.

The prestigious award, funded by the Jonas Center for Nursing and Veterans Healthcare, was given for the academic and professional excellence she has achieved thus far and for the potential of her graduate studies to affect veterans and the nursing profession. The center is dedicated to improving veteran health through the Jonas Veterans Healthcare Scholar program and to developing outstanding nursing faculty and clinical leaders through the Jonas Nurse Leaders Scholar program.
