Prerequisites

Applicants are eligible to apply the CD2 Program if they are entering nursing for the first time, have completed a Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent, and have completed the prerequisite requirements (see below) with a grade of “C” or better in each course. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 grade point average in the prerequisite courses and the natural science prerequisite courses to be eligible for admission consideration. If any professional nursing courses have been taken, grades earned in those courses will be calculated into the prerequisite GPA. Admission to the program is highly competitive; completion of prerequisites with minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

International applicants must complete the equivalent of a US Bachelor’s degree (as determined by an external evaluation agency), including all state and external/internal examinations required for the degree/diploma. Although a degree in another country may have a name similar to a US degree, this does not necessarily indicate the degree can be accepted as equivalent. For example: three-year general degrees (from Canada, India, Pakistan, France, etc.) are not accepted for admission to the second degree/second career program. Such applicants must have completed an Honors degree, or have completed additional undergraduate requirements to be considered for admission.
 
The following courses/requirements are prerequisites for admission consideration for the CD2 Program in the College of Nursing:
  • BIO 1510 Basic Biology*
  • BIO 2200 Microbiology*
  • BIO 2870 Anatomy & Physiology*
  • CHM 1020 General Chemistry I (Inorganic)*
  • CHM 1030 General Chemistry II (Organic and Biochemistry)*
  • NFS 2030 Human Nutrition
  • PSY 2400 Developmental Psychology
  • Any Sociology course (except statistics)
  • Cultural Anthropology or Foreign Culture course
  • Humanities: Visual & Performing Arts or Philosophy & Letters course
*All sciences must have labs.
 
NOTE: Once all prerequisites have been completed and submitted, applicants will be notified of interview dates and will need to schedule an interview. The in-person interview is required; no exceptions can be made.
 

Internet-Based TOEFL

Students for whom English is not the native language must submit Internet-Based TOEFL scores to the College of Nursing. This is not required if you have completed a 4-year high school diploma, a 4-year degree, or an advanced degree in the United States.
 
Minimum scores required are: 
  • 101 Total 
  • 25 Listening 
  • 25 Reading 
  • 25 Writing 
  • 26 Speaking

The College of Nursing evaluates courses from other institutions based on guidelines and requirements established by the College. These evaluations take precedence over evaluations performed by other departments or the university transfer credit department.
