Doctoral Program Informational Meeting - PhD & DNP Nursing Programs: May 20 2013 at 3:00 PM

Two post-baccalaureate doctoral programs in nursing are offered by Wayne State University College of Nursing.The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program prepares highly competent researchers and scholars who will contribute to the body of scientific knowledge in nursing. Students in the program have opportunities to gain in-depth knowledge of nursing theories and develop skills in theory building, research methods, and in cognate disciplines bearing upon the development, transmission, and use of nursing knowledge.The Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program is designed to prepare the nurse at an advanced level of nursing science. The program emphasizes the development of the student's capacity to impact the clinical setting as leaders and educators and to utilize clinical research to improve and transform health care.

The Wayne State University College of Nursing Alumni Association is composed of graduates, faculty and former students of the College. This group is part of the general Wayne State University Alumni Association, but has its own organization, bylaws, and mission.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Wayne State University College of Nursing Alumni Association is to promote the general welfare of the College of Nursing and to establish mutually beneficial relationships and networking between the College of Nursing and its alumni, faculty, nursing students, administration and the Wayne State University Alumni Association.

Members, we need you to volunteer!

The Wayne State University (WSU) College of Nursing (CON) Alumni Association elections take place in May of each year and we will be voting electronically. However, any member of the CON Alumni Association can request a paper ballot from the WSU Alumni Office.

Regular members shall consist of those persons who have satisfactorily completed a degree in nursing from WSU. These members are eligible to run for office in the CON Alumni Association as either officers or Directors.

Officers are elected by the CON Alumni membership from a slate of candidates nominated by the Nominations and Elections Committee and approved by the Board of Directors in April of each year.

Positions for which we are seeking nominations:

Officers:

President Elect (1 year commitment): Serves in the absence of the President and shall succeed to the presidency in the year following his/her term of office as President-Elect.

Vice President of Nominations and Elections (2 year commitment): responsible for recruitment and nomination of candidates for positions as Officers and Directors.

Vice President of Special Events (2 year commitment): responsible for developing and implementing special events and community projects that will encourage membership and participation in the CON Alumni Association. This V.P. shall prepare a tentative calendar of events for the succeeding year, keep a record of programs and activities as an ongoing history and evaluate programs and projects in relation to the annual goals of the Association.

We are also in need of nominations for four Directors: expected to attend regular board meeting and offer input.
